"Okay, I'm losing my hair. What are my options?

Well, you have six choices. Many people consider pharmaceuticals such as Rogaine or Propecia as a solution for their hair loss problem. The drugs work in varying degrees depending upon the extent of your hair loss. They are best at stopping the extent and progression of your hair loss. Side effects are rare, but include itching, flaking scalp and lowered libido. Natural alternatives to these drugs are also available, but present side effects similar to their pharmaceutical counterparts and also are not standardized for accurate dosage.

Surgical hair restoration is not for everyone. The only recommended procedure at this point is follicular unit hair transplantation and only a handful of physicians are competent in this procedure. It is also important to know whether or not you are a good candidate. Accelerated hair loss or shock fall out may be caused by this procedure. Donor site scarring, unnatural appearance in hair growth and other complications related to surgery are also possiblities depending on the skill of your surgeon.

If you have little or moderate hair loss, cosmetic concealers can be used effectively. Cover up products include hair building fibers made from keratin to scalp makeup that reduces the contrast between balding scalp and hair and can be very natural in appearance.Design for use on the crown of the head, improperly applied concealers can be very messy and do a poor job on the frontal hairline.

Hair piece systems can be made from synthetic hair to several types of natural hair. hair pieces can be attached in a number of ways, some more permanent than others, however regular removal is necessary in order to maintain proper hygiene as well as maintaining the hair piece itself. When done correctly, there is very little negative to hair piece wear.

Dietary intervention, a relatively modern concept, has shown some promise at slowing hair loss, but the jury is not yet in.

What should I expect if I start wearing a hair piece?

A positive experience! Most men feel a renewed sense of self. A properly worn hair piece will respond like a true full head of hair and, with proper maintenance, be virtually undetectable.
